Bordeaux
Die Appellation Pomerol ist das kleinste der berühmten Weinbaugebiete im Bordeaux, da es sich auf nur ca. 800 Hektar Rebfläche ausbreitet. Diese werden mehrheitlich mit Merlot, der Königsrebsorte des rechten Ufers der Dordogne, bepflanzt. Das Pomerol ist auch die einzige Appellation des Bordeaux, die nie eine offizielle, hierarchische Klassifizierung erhalten hat.
Pomerol-Weine sind süss, opulent und fleischig. Aufgrund ihres hohen Anteils an Merlot, sind sie schon in ihrer Jugend gut trinkbar, altern aber auch prächtig.
